How to Clean White Items in your Home

How to Clean White Items in your Home

Traditionally, whites are to be saved for after Memorial Day, however some believe that they can be worn once spring arrives. Regardless of when you break them out, nothing is worse than dingy whites. Use these tips to bring your white items—not just clothing—back to the bright condition they came in.

First, brush off your shoes to remove any bigger pieces of dirt. Mix a tablespoon of baking soda, ½ tablespoon water, and ½ tablespoon hydrogen peroxide in a small mixing bowl until it becomes an even paste. Apply a first coat of the mixture by brushing it into the surface, and then paint a second coat over the shoe. Leave your shoes in the sun for four hours.  Clap your shoes together and use a brush to remove the dried up mixture.

Soak individual items in five cups of water and two cups of vinegar overnight. Then, put them through the washer as you normally would.

Clean your sink with a mixture of three tablespoons baking soda, one tablespoon dish soap, and ¼ cup warm water to restore that perfect white finish.

Place your pot on the stove and fill with ½ inch of hydrogen peroxide and ¼ cup baking soda. Bring to a boil until the solution gets foamy, and then turn it off and let it sit for 10 minutes. Once the pot cools, pour out the solution and scrub with a magic eraser.

Combine ¼ cup bleach and hot water in a large bucket. Be sure to put on rubber gloves, and then scrub the chairs with this solution using a scrub brush. Allow the solution to sit on the chairs for a few minutes, then rinse.
