Let Activities Evolve With You — Not Against You!

Let Activities Evolve With You — Not Against You!
Remember when you were a teenager and you had unlimited amounts of energy? Remember how losing weight in your twenties didn’t seem to be so hard? Remember realizing sometime after age 30 when your body stopped working the way it used to?

No? Good for you! But my response to all those questions is “Yes, Unfortunately and Fortunately”.

Why Fortunately? I’ve always been an active person: dancing as a child, varsity soccer as a teenager, more soccer as a young adult and fun exercise classes like Zumba. But as time went on, ailments started to keep me from doing some of these activities like a sprained ankle, bad knee, muscle spasms in my lower back. As a result though, it challenged me to try new forms of exercising, and to adapt my activity based on how my body was changing. It is always a good idea to consult your doctor when considering a new fitness plan, but here’s why I love yoga.

1. There are many different levels and types, so it’s easy to get started and get something out of it.
2. It can be done as a group exercise in a class, or privately in your own home.

3. It’s a great way to gain both flexibility and strength without vigorous or rapid movements that could strain your muscles.

4. It incorporates relaxation and meditation, which I believe is a gift women don’t get to experience often. (I know I don’t!)

The point is this, it doesn’t matter how young or old we are, it is important to our health that we remain active and that doesn’t always mean doing the same activity you used to do. There are many different activities you can try to find the right one that is a good fit for you now, which may not be the one that was good for you 10 years, or more, ago.
